Shote Galica ist vor mehr als 80 gestorben.
Azem Bejta Galica - The Kacak Movement of Kosova To most people, little is known about the Albanian resistance against Serb occupation of our soil. They usually associate everything with UCK - or the KLA as the anglicized version calls it. Not much is known about the early resistance, in particular the resistance right after WWI known as the "kacak movement" (from the word kacak=renegade - the Serb authorities wished to silence the importance of their revolts and therefore called the risers renegades).
The most significiant personality of the movement was named Azem Bejta, more commonly known as Azem Galica. He was from the village of Galice, which lies in Drenica, He was the son of a patriot named Bejta who died in a rebellion against the Turks. Azem Galica followed in the foot-steps of his father and fought the Turks in 1912. He also fought the Serbs who imprisonated him. This enabled him to learn Serbian and he spoke it fluently. Later on, he married Qerime Radisheva, more commonly known as Shote Galica. She was Kosova's Jeanne D'Arc; dressed in mens' clothes she fought side by side with her husband;

In WWI, Azem Galica fought both the Austro-Hungarians and Bulgarians. He coopereted with other famous kacaks, like Shaqir Smaka who died in a skirmish with the Austro-Hungarians. Despite getting wounded several times, Azem Galica continued to pursue his dream of liberating Kosova from all occupiers. But from a political standpoint, he was naive, and even cooperated with the Serbs, e.g. Chetnik Kosta Pecanac. He quickly realized that the Serbs could not be trusted, and he organized his men in 1919 in a great rebellion. He and Hasan Prishtina and the Kosova Committee (which was in exile) wrote down how the rebellion was supposed to be carried out, and the two first main rules characterizes the noble characters of these patriots;
