President Ivanov opens honorary consulate in Tucson, Arizona
President Gjorge Ivanov opened honorary consulate of Macedonia in Tucson, federal state of Arizona. Jason Miko, long-standing activist for Macedonia's rights, was named honorary consul.
Miko is former close associate to President Boris Trajkovski, columnist in Dnevnik daily and one of the authors of "Name is a Name" film.
- Jason Miko is one of the many Americans who come to Macedonia to help us. The relations between Macedonia and US are not only friendly but are also partnership relations. We are very grateful to the USA, federal state of Arizona and Jason Miko for what they are doing for Macedonia. That's why we are together in all peacekeeping operations both in Iraq and in Afghanistan, Ivanov said at the consulate opening ceremony.
Miko shortly presented Macedonia as a country that many can learn from about its tolerance and friendship and a country which conducts economic reforms aimed at providing prosperity to its citizens.
Macedonian Ambassador to US Zoran Jolevski said that Miko secured a special place at numerous number of Macedonians and now it is our great honour to offer him to become Macedonian honorary consul in Arizona and we are proud that he will represent our country.
Many Macedonians living in Arizona and other officials attended the opening of a Macedonian honorary consulate.
President Ivanov will visit the Arizona State University, where a cooperation will be signed between the university and the Macedonian Ministry of Education and Science.
Ivanov will take part at the Sedona Forum 2013, organised by the McCain Institute for International Leadership, where the President is scheduled to deliver an address.

Prishtina and Skopje see impressive growth
Prishtina Airport and Skopje Alexander the Great have recorded strong first quarter passenger results. Prishtina Airport was a star performer. It handled almost 349.000 passengers in the first three months of the year, up 19% on 2012. The airport managed to record growth of 6% in January, followed by a surge of over 25% in both February and March. The strong figures also saw Prishtina handle more than 100.000 in the slowest month of the year - February. The strong passenger numbers were followed by an increase in the number of flights operated to and from the airport by 15.3%. The airport will have to maintain strong growth throughout this year if it is to maintain its position as the third busiest in the former Yugoslavia and not lose the title to Dubrovnik.
Skopje Airport also saw significant passenger growth, particularly last month when it registered a 21.5% surge by welcoming 68.223 passengers through its doors. Growth in January amounted to a modest 3% while in February the airport saw an impressive 14.2% passenger increase. In the first quarter, Alexander the Great Airport welcomed 185.948, up 12.5% on last year.
Both Prishtina and Skopje anticipate a strong summer ahead. Prishtina is to welcome SAS Scandinavian Airlines which will be launching flights from Gothenburg, Oslo and Stockholm. Furthermore, Germania will be inaugurating services from London Gatwick starting June 29. Construction of the airport’s brand new terminal is ongoing, though the exact date of its completion is unknown. Meanwhile, Skopje’s growth can be attributed to Wizz Air which has introduced a range of new flights from the Macedonian capital. The airline recently announced it will be increasing frequencies from Skopje to Malmo to up to five times per week from June. The low cost airline will also launch services from Skopje to Gothenburg City Airport and Stockholm Skavsta next month.
