    Ivanov-Nishani: Macedonia and Albania to focus on economic cooperation, Euro-integration
    Ohrid, 14 September 2012 (MIA) - President Gjorge Ivanov met Friday in Ohrid with Albanian counterpart Bujar Nishani, focusing on bilateral relations and potentials for enhancement of cooperation.
    Ivanov and Nishani agreed that bilateral political relations enabled for energy in the future to focus on economic cooperation, infrastructure and energy links, cross-border cooperation, tourism development, cooperation in struggle against organized crime, protection of cultural heritage and environment, the President's Cabinet said in a press release.
    President Ivanov confirmed Macedonia's commitment to further develop good neighborly relations by way of open dialogue.
    Interlocutors also agreed that Euro-integration of Western Balkans is of essential significance for regional stability and development, confirming mutual support in this regard.
    Ivanov and Nishani also focused on regional developments, agreeing that disputable and open issues should be settled through dialogue and mutual respect.
    "Enhancement of bilateral and intensification of regional cooperation should be tools that affirm the new reality in the region, instead of past perceptions", said President Ivanov.
    Ivanov also extended his condolences over this morning's traffic accident, in which a member of President's Nishani escort was killed.
    Moreover, the two Presidents voiced commitment to the strengthening of bilateral ties and the common European future, reads the press release.

    Political Consultation Between Macedonian, Russian MoFA
    Tuesday, 18 September 2012
    A delegation of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, led by the Ministry’s Fourth European Department Director, Andrey Maslov, pays a visit Monday to Macedonia, in order to hold political consultations with their Macedonian counterparts, led by the State Counselor for Bilateral Relations with Non-European and Eurasian Countries, Paskal Stojcevski.

    As part of the visit, Maslov has also been received by Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikola Poposki. At the meeting, Minister Poposki and Maslov have exchanged their views and positions on the overall development of the bilateral relations, cooperation and strategic partnership between the two friendly countries, focusing, as well, on the potentials for their future strengthening and intensification in all areas of mutual interest, both at the political and economic levels.

    Moreover, at his meeting with Minister Poposki, the senior Russian diplomat has emphasized that the Russian Federation sees the Republic of Macedonia as both an important and privileged partner.

    Poposki and Maslov have reaffirmed the fact that Macedonia and Russia have been enjoying an excellent political dialogue between each other, with the two countries’ most senior officials exchanging visits at an ever increasing rate and frequency. In that context, they have welcomed Minister Poposki’s forthcoming return visit to the Russian Federation, which has been scheduled for the second half of 2012.


    At their political consultations, which have been moderated by the Director for Non-European and Eurasian Countries at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Macedonia, Paskal Stojcevski, the representatives of the two Ministries have reflected on a number of issues concerning the development of the bilateral relations between Macedonia and Russia, placing a special emphasis on the potentials for upgrading the existing legal framework between the two countries by concluding new bilateral agreements, strengthening their economic cooperation and trade, diversifying their cooperation in areas such as culture, education and tourism, as well as strengthening their cooperation within the various international organizations.


    Moreover, the representatives of the Macedonian foreign ministry have reassured their Russian counterparts of the Macedonian interest in further intensifying the economic relations with the Russian Federation and fully pursuing the projects aimed at supplying the Republic of Macedonia with Russian gas by the country joining the South Stream gas pipeline project. On that note, the Macedonian delegation has also reaffirmed the country’s interest in attracting as many Russian direct investments as possible.


    In addition to that, the delegations of the Macedonian and Russian foreign ministries have also deliberated upon a number of topical issues on the international agenda, discussing, as well, certain issues of regional importance, including their countries’ foreign policy priorities with regard to the latest developments in their immediate surroundings, Macedonia’s MoFA said in a press release.

    Macedonian university joins UNCTAD Virtual Institute as 78th member

    The University American College Skopje (UACS) of the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia has joined the UNCTAD Virtual Institute as its 78th institutional member, bringing the count of countries represented in the Vi to 41.

    UACS was established in 2005 as a private university to provide high quality education in business, economics, law and political science, combining the best of European and American educational standards and practices. The university also pays special attention to cooperation with its students' future employers in order to prepare graduates whose skills match those expected in the workplace.
    Vi's counterpart at UACS will be the School of Business Economics and Management (SBEM). A group of researchers at the SBEM concentrates on trade and development issues, such as the analysis of trade and free trade agreements, integration, monetary policy, and employment, often with a specific focus on the Southeast European region and the European Union.
    The cooperation with the Vi will be coordinated by Dr. Marjan Petreski, vice-dean for research at SBEM.
    Through the participation in the Vi, UACS expects to enhance its expertise in teaching and researching trade and development courses/issues, and building research cooperation. The university also hopes to find teachers who could contribute to Master's courses related to trade and development issues. In the future, they wish to receive support for the development of a Master's programme on trade and development.

    Nj sirian pa vetdije gjendet n autostradn Gjevgjeli-Shkup

    Am 18. hat man auf der Autobahn Gevgelija-Skopje einen 32- jährigen Syrer gefunden. Er war verletzt und soll sich jetzt im Krankenhaus von Gevgelija befinden. Zusammen mit einem Pakistani und Bangladeshi sind sie über Griechenland nach MK gekommen um weiter nach Deutschland zu gehen.

    Bei einem Treffen der Balkan Fußballbunde in Budva, Montenegro an dem auch Michelle Platini teilgenommen hat wurde über die Möglichkeiten der UEFA gesprochen den Föderationen auf dem Balkan zu helfen und über die Vergabe der EM in mehreren Ländern. Es wurde anscheinend über die EURO 2020 diskutiert und das Mazedonien eventuell ein Kandidat für ein solches Ereignis sein könnte

    Ermittlungen gegen die staatliche Universität von Tetova


    Die mazedonische Staatsanwaltschaft ermittelt gegen die staatliche Unversität Tetova. Angeblich sollen am ersten Semestertag die Studierenden die albanische Hymne gesungen haben. Dies sah die mazedonische Staatsanwaltschaft als ausreichenden Grund gegen die Universität zu ermitteln und gegen die beschuldigten Aklage wegen Volksveretzung zu erheben.

    Auch das mazedonische Innenministerium reagierte über die Innenministerin Gordana Jankullovsa auf das Geschehen und verkündete, alles Mögliche zu tun, um der Staatsanwaltschaft bei der Beweissammlung behilflich zu sein und diese dem Staatsanwalt Ljupco Shfrgovski vorzulegen.

    Wie von den mazedonischen Medien berichtet, wird erwartet, dass das Geschehen zwischen den Koalitionspartnern zum Zankapfel werden könnte.

    Ivanov to attend UN General Assembly and meet with Ban Ki-moon, Nimetz in New York
    Skopje, 22 September 2012 (MIA) - President Gjorge Ivanov is paying a visit to the United States on September 21-29. The purpose of his visit is to attend the 67th General Assembly of the United Nations, where President Ivanov is scheduled to deliver an address at a general debate on Sept. 27.
    The Macedonian President in New York will meet with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and with his special envoy in the name talks, Matthew Nimetz, Ivanov's cabinet said in a press release Friday.
    The President will reaffirm the request for unblocking Macedonia’s integration processes for membership in the European Union and NATO, by respecting the judgment of International Court of Justice and the international commitments, while also requesting the process led under the auspices of the UN chief for overcoming the difference over the name to be unblocked.
    On the sidelines of the General Assembly, bilateral meetings are scheduled between President Ivanov and heads of state and government, and the President will take part at events allowing meetings and contacts with international representatives to occur, such as the reception in honor of the Heads of Delegations hosted by the President of the United States, Barack Obama, the reception hosted by the Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, and the reception on the occasion of the opening of the new premises of the EU to the UN, organized by the President of the European Council, Herman van Rompuy, the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Catherine Ashton, and the European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso.
    Upon arrival in the United States, President Ivanov will meet with representatives of the Macedonian Diaspora in New Jersey, and will attend a dinner organized in his honor by the “Ss. Cyril and Methodius” church board in Cedar Grove and the Sunday liturgy in the church “St. Nikola” in Totowa.
    At an invitation of the Harvard University, President Ivanov will deliver a lecture at the Faculty of Law at this University, and will hold a meeting with Macedonian students studying at Harvard.

    President Ivanov meets with Macedonian diaspora in NJ

    Upon arrival in the United States where President Ivanov will participate at the 67th UN General Assembly, he met with representatives of the Macedonian Diaspora in the "SS. Cyril and Methodius" church Cedar Grove in New Jersey, Macedonian media reports.

    Out of numerous relations that connect the homeland and the Diaspora, the biggest love is toward our mutual homeland. I believe that this love is the reason more to be united and together in efforts for progressive, rich and prosperous Macedonia. The desire for the European and Euro-Atlantic Macedonia unites not only the citizens of the Republic of Macedonia but all our brothers and sisters worldwide. Let's unite to have progressive, European and prosperous Macedonia, President Ivanov said.

    Besides Macedonians from New Jersey also politicians from this state participated at the meeting.
    Congressman Bill Pascrell, strong supporter to Macedonia, held a speech in which he strongly urged for Macedonian membership into NATO.

    We as a country have no right, and the United Nations has no right to tell you or any other nation how to call yourself. I have discussed this issue many times with my good friend, the State Secretary Hillary Clinton. I have also discussed with former president, republicans and democrats, and we will not yield from Macedonia to be sovereign and independent state forever and there is no reason someone to hinder its membership to NATO. Our struggle is not to destroy the enemy but the enemy to become a friend, Pascrell said.

    Kire Trajceski, President of the "SS. Cyril and Methodius" church board demanded maintenance of the Macedonian identity during the talks with Greece.
    On Sunday, President Ivanov will visit "St. Nikola" church in Totowa.
    At an invitation of the Harvard University, President Ivanov will deliver a lecture on topic “Macedonia - Integration Without Assimilation Through Respecting of Diversity" at the Faculty of Law at this University.

    President Ivanov is scheduled to deliver an address at a general debate of the 67th UNGA on Sept. 27.

    Two more West Nile cases reported in Macedonia
    Monday, 24 September 2012


    Two more people have been infected with the West Nile virus in Macedonia, health authorities said Monday.

    "One of the patients is a woman aged 84 years and has been admitted to the Clinic for Infective Diseases and the other is a two-year old child who is being treated in the Children's Hospital. Both patients haven't traveled outside Macedonia," stated Jovanka Kostovska - head of the Sector for Preventive Health Protection.

    An emergency session of the Commission of Infective Diseases is set to take place later in the day.
    "After the session, more in-depth information will be presented about the situation and future measures that need to be taken," Health Minister Nikola Todorov said.
    Five people have been infected with the mosquito-borne virus in Macedonia so far and one patient has died last week.
