Bad “news” keep on coming for the Gruevski government and its nationalist, authoritarian, irredentist party-state mechanism. The first blow came from the U.S. during a hearing in Congress (HR 2583) for the so-called Foreign Relations Authorization Act, Fiscal Year 2012. In the document of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the United States, Skopje is referred to as FYROM least 9 times.
As stated in the minutes that were posted on the website, http://hcfa.house.gov/112/ROSLEH_078.pdf
, (page 52-54), the government of FYROM “continues to utilize materials that violate provisions of the United Nations-brokered Interim Agreement between the FYROM and Greece regarding incendiary rallies, rhetoric, or propaganda, and United Nations-led negotiations between the FYROM and Greece have so far failed to achieve the longstanding goals of the United States and the United Nations to find a mutually acceptable, new official name for the FYROM.”
And continues by saying that “It is the sense of Congress that all United States assistance to the FYROM should be conditioned on the FYROM’s willingness to engage in meaningful discussions with Greece in accordance with United Nations Security Council Resolution 817” adding that “The Secretary of State may not use funds authorized to be appropriated under this Act for programs and activities that directly or indirectly promote incendiary rallies, rhetoric, or propaganda by state-controlled agencies of the FYROM or encourage acts by private entities likely to incite violence, hatred, or hostility, including support for printing and publishing of textbooks, maps, and teaching aids that may include inaccurate information on the histories and geographies of Greece and FYROM”.
Moreover, the president of the new party “Republican Alliance”, Gabriela Arsova-Miloshevska on an article published in U.S. newspaper Washington Times suggests her countrymen to change the name, flag and national anthem in order to have a better future.
Unsurprisingly those statements have made her countrymen frantic, especially those abroad, many of them, speaking in various social networking sites about “treason”, while others seem to realize that blows coming from the U.S. tend to become routine.
